The HSE Domestic Gas Review stated that a Haynes Type Workshop Manual approach to standards could potentially make installation and servicing easier to understand and therefore safer.
This would seem to infer that some current standards, and in all probability other publications based on those standards, are difficult to understand and may possibly contribute in some way to unsafe situations.
I would have to agree with them – which is why there has always been a place for a second level of publications, like our Domestic Natural Gas Handbook, to bridge the gap between standards and the place of work.
However, although in agreement there should be a simplification and a workshop approach, I am not sure the use of the term 'Haynes Type Manual' is totally appropriate. For many of us the name 'Haynes Manual' conjures up a mental picture of clapped out old cars and trying to repair them whilst lying in the street studying a black and white picture covered in grease – in other words DIY!
However, we believe that all our publications are already written to make them easy for a qualified installer, or installer under formal training to understand. That is, wherever possible the use of simple diagrams and charts, and of course full colour.
Our recently released mobile edition has raised the bar still further. The ViperGas.co.uk Mobile Edition provides subscribers with access to all Technical Manuals on their supported mobile device, including Apple iPhone 3G, iPod Touch and Windows Mobile.
A comprehensive search engine is included, indexing over 64,000 keywords to help users find information quickly and a Quick Reference Guide is also available to store and manage the most frequently used information.

As a company we accept that many prefer our printed versions, but as we have continually stated the cost of producing, and keeping them up to date, can be prohibitive which is why we like to let our customer decide by providing both printed and electronic solutions.
